I don’t know about y’all but I am SO ready for Spring. I LOVE watching the Shenandoah Valley come to life again and burst with color. The views are breathtaking any time of year at Junewood Estates (link), but I just think there’s something about Spring that feels hopeful and exciting and fresh – especially after the winter we all just had! So, I’m ready for pops of color and patterns and anything that can make my home feel as fresh on the inside as it does on the outside.
Here are a few quick tips you can use in your own home to bring that Spring feeling indoors!
For me, the start of Spring triggers something in my brain that screams “Get organized!” I’m a pretty organized person already, but I guess that Spring cleaning bug just hits and I get the urge to pull out all my stuff and reorganize it. Honestly? My favorite part of Spring cleaning and organizing is getting rid of things I no longer need – it feels SO good to clear out space and donate items to local shelters or Goodwill. I swear, organizing does something for the soul and I’m here for it.
Bring the Outside In
The most beautiful part of Spring is right outside your door – all those plants and flowers blossoming. Bring some of that natural beauty into your home! I always like to buy fresh-cut flowers from the market every week to add some color in my bedroom or my living room. It brightens my day to see them and adds to that fresh feeling I love so much about Spring. Who says you’ve gotta wait for someone to buy you flowers?
Play with Color
Spring is a time to be bold with your color choices. You’ve been stuck in a gray, boring winter for months (unless you’re lucky to live somewhere that stays colorful and bright year-round!), now it’s time to embrace something bright and bold! Add an accent color wall to any room for a fresh, new look. You might even consider playing around with Pantone’s colors of the year – nothing says Spring like a nice, sunshiney yellow!
Freshen Up Your Accessories
One of the easiest ways to freshen up your space is to mix up your accessories! Grab some new pillows for the couch, or try a new pattern in your curtains. Or stop by Home Goods and find some new artwork to hang on the walls (you know I love a Home Goods find!).. The idea here is not to completely redo your home but to add little touches of Spring throughout so that you can enjoy that same fresh feeling that you get when you step outside.
Revamp Your Front Porch
I’m not one to tell anyone they have to redecorate the front porch with every season, but I’m also not going to pretend that I don’t love it just a little bit. It’s the first thing your guests see when they come to your home and I love the idea of making a front porch or entry feel welcoming in any season by updating the colors a bit. If you’re looking to go big, you could paint the front door and add a pop of color to the facade of your home, or if you’re not interested in a big change, you could simply swap out the welcome mat and hang a nice wreath on the door. Add some potted plants and lanterns, and you’ve got yourself a magazine-worthy welcome for your friends and family.
Breathe in the Spring
If you’re not in the mood to redecorate, a simple way to bring Spring into your home is through scent – either with candles or essential oil diffusers. A few scents I’m partial to in the Spring include:
- Bergamot & Grapefruit
- Lemon Verbena
- Fresh Linen
Or you could experiment with your own scents by blending your essential oils! The possibilities are endless here and completely dependent on your unique tastes (or smells in this case!). But if there’s one thing I know, it’s that the smell of Spring is invigorating and will help melt away those winter blues in no time.
Whatever you decide this Spring, just have some fun with it! This season is all about fresh starts – you can start fresh in more ways than just your decorating. Embrace the start of a new season and everything it represents. Find things that bring you joy and use them to make your home a space that you just can’t wait to come back to.
